Bird flu alert in Hong Kong

HONG KONG, 21 December 2011: Hong Kong raised its bird flu alert level to “serious” on Tuesday and announced it will cull 17,000 chickens after three birds tested positive for the deadly H5N1 strain of the virus.
The city’s health chief York Chow announced the measures after a dead chicken at a wholesale market and two other wild birds tested positive for the deadly H5N1 strain of the disease.
Authorities banned all live poultry imports with immediate effect while they trace the source of the dead chicken, whether it was imported or from local poultry farms.
Public broadcaster RTHK reported that around 20 students from a girls’ school, aged between six and seven, have developed flu-like symptoms including fever, cough and sore throat, but none has been taken to hospital.
Hong Kong was the site of the world’s first major outbreak of bird flu among humans in 1997, when six people died from a mutated form of the virus, which is normally confined to poultry. Millions of birds were then culled.
The cull at the poultry wholesale market where the infected chicken was found will be held on Wednesday, Chow told a late night press conference.
“With a heavy heart, I announce that the dead chicken has been tested positive for the H5N1 strain of virus after a routine check by the agriculture, fisheries and conservation department today,” Chow said.
“We are now raising the bird flu response level from alert to serious.”
Earlier on Tuesday, the agriculture authorities confirmed an Oriental magpie robin found dead in a secondary school on Saturday had tested positive for H5N1, the second such case in a week.
Another secondary school was ordered to close for a day for disinfection last Friday after a dead black-headed gull was found with the virus.
The city is particularly nervous about infectious diseases after an outbreak of deadly respiratory disease SARS in 2003 killed 300 people in Hong Kong and a further 500 worldwide.

This is very good. Congratulation! This is the spirit of guides to fight back for unfair and ridiculous ideas. This also means positive suggestion to authority concerns. It is good to reorganize MTGA because the former one was organized by force or in short time without giving enough time to guides.
Nay Dunn.
About your doubts
1)Is my low marks in degree and history of arrears a hindrance to write the exam?–you must be a graduate degree holder from a recognized university, nothing like %.
2)What optional should I select or what should be the criteria for selecting?–any two subjects of your choice. but be vigilant enough, there are significant changes going on in civil services exam.
3)Minimum how many hours a day I shoul spend for the preparations?–time is not certain, some people give 10 hrs, and some 16 hrs. who have not studied before about this exam and want to make it in very first attempt, it depends on how much time you have for preparation.
4)Is it possible for preparing for the exam while doing a job?–while doing a private job it’s not possible, but if you join govt. sector after your preparation you can make it.
5)Can you suggest some good ways of preparing notes and some good reference texts for general studies?–strart right from NCERT then some reference book, then notes of reputed coaching institutes and then make your own notes based on all these matters.
This exam takes very long time hence make sure that you are not get disturbed during this long period, if you can get strong financial support from your family go ahead without doing further delay, but if you are thinking of doing any job then try to get in govt. sector that will make you guard you from job insecurity.
With best wishes.
