“Body of War” screening with Phil Donahue and Norman Solomon Followed by an on-stage conversation between Phil Donahue and Norman Solomon Monday, January 9 7:30 – 9:30 p.m. Sebastopol Cinema 6868 McKinley Street, Sebastopol [MAP] Donahue was a rare mainstream media voice questioning the rush to invade Iraq; his nightly program on MSNBC was terminated over the war issue. It was during the Iraq occupation that Donahue’s path crossed with Solomon’s. Both worked on important documentaries inspired by the Iraq War. Donahue co-directed and executive produced the award-winning “Body of War”; Solomon was the principal expert in “War Made Easy,” a movie (inspired by Solomon’s book) which examined MSNBC’s censorship of Donahue. Monday, January 9 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. Phil Donahue is a Hall-of-Fame broadcaster and winner of 20 daytime Emmy Awards who pioneered in bringing social issues — consumer rights, feminism, civil rights, gay rights — to a broad mainstream audience. Solomon and Donahue have been political allies for years now. They’ve appeared publicly together. In praising Solomon’s memoir “Made Love, Got War,” Donahue called him “one of America’s most respected progressive voices.” Suggested donation: $25 Refreshments served.
